BAO-TAO carpet (China), late 19th century, early 20th century Dimensions: 360 x 280cm. Technical features: Wool velvet on wool foundation. A large, plain royal-blue field hosts a circular, bluish-ivory plant medallion at its center. The main, surrounding ivory border features flowering stems, some of which spill out onto the field. A curious ivory highlight with leafy bamboo stems embellishes the whole.
