YOMOUD-BOUKHARA carpet (Central Asia), late 19th century. Dimensions: 176 x 134cm. Technical features: Wool velvet on wool foundation. A brick field hosts four columns of seven tricolored "Gühls Arabatchi" (stylized elephant's feet) with darts, set on a trellis, interspersed with gems. Geometric plant decoration on the border, highlighted with polychrome lacework and tree-of-life reserves. Note the offset of the lower gühls.
