KARATCHOFF carpet (Caucasus-Armenia), late 19th century. Dimensions: 229 x 154cm. Technical features: Wool velvet on wool foundation. A cherry field dotted with flowers, animals, small "S "s and stylized stars, supports a large hexagonal medallion in the form of a red, blue, ivory and celadon green nesting entomologist. It lies on a speckled bluish field. Four ivory and celadon boxes with multicolored Medes and Kochak stars embellish the ensemble. The royal blue main border with a succession of stylized cruciform flowers and polychrome arachnids is flanked by two ivory, old gold and anthracite counter-borders with chess pieces.
