Original KAZAK "KABRISTAN" carpet (Caucasus-Armenia), late 1 - Lot 122
Original KAZAK "KABRISTAN" carpet (Caucasus-Armenia), late 19th century, early 20th century
Dimensions : 275 x 180cm.
Technical features: wool pile on wool foundation.
A jagged anthracite field with multicolored flecks, adorned with floral corollas, small animals, gems, Medes stars and various other small Caucasian symbols, hosts three linked jagged rhomboid medallions, old gold and navy, with multicolored stylized vegetation. They are framed by two jagged ruby symbolic representations of the "Winged Sun" (Faravahar), a representation of the Persian god Ahura Mazda or its Armenian pagan counterpart, Aramazd. The main ivory border features a succession of polychrome crosses and arachnids, flanked by two anthracite counter-borders with garlands of flowers. Inner border with sky and brick chess pieces, positive/negative. A "Chirvan" design is used for this "Kazak" rug, which is very well made in Armenia. Great presence.
