HÉRÉKÉ silk carpet (Asia Minor), mid-20th century, metal brocaded and signed Dimensions: 101 x 74cm. Technical features: Silk and metal velvet on silk backing. Density of 1,540,000 knots per square meter. A navy mihrab hosts a plant interlace with blossoming corollas, where two colorful birds of paradise frolic. The vaults and lower spandrels are chestnut with undulating vegetation, ivory and ruby. Two ivory counter-borders with garlands of gold florets frame the main ruby border with a series of ivory flower corollas on leafy stems. Signature in a small cartouche at top right.
