KACHAN silk carpet (Persia), late 19th century Dimensions: 200 x 120cm. Technical features: Silk velvet on silk backing. Density of 800,000 knots per square meter. A royal-blue field covered with a variegated, multicolored plant sowing supports a central, oblong, poly-lobed medallion in old rose with star-shaped flowers and swirling scrolls. Four small arabesque spandrels in old gold embellish the whole. Garlands of polychrome flowers, with blossoming corollas on flowering stems, stretch across the three counter borders of ivory, old gold and pistachio, and across the main border of old rose.
