HÉRIZ carpet entirely woven from silk (Persia), late 19th century Dimensions: 178 x 131cm. Technical features: Silk velvet on silk backing. A poly-lobed, lozenge-shaped cream floral medallion, with a cruciform corolla and its pendants of arched interlacing, lies on a hexagonal brick counter-field, itself set on a navy field covered with multicolored floral scrolls. The frame is composed of three equal borders, bluish, ivory and brick, with undulating garlands of flowers and leaves in polychrome. Two-tone "S" highlights. (Minor wear and stains).
