Silk GHOUM carpet (Iran), shah period, mid-20th century Dimensions: 156 x 106cm. Technical features: Silk velvet on silk backing. Density of 800,000 knots per square meter. A marine mihrab houses a delicate tree of life in bloom, protected by an arch. Birds and butterflies, attracted by the fragrance of the flowers, come to forage. Two vegetal columns support ivory and old gold arabesque vaults. A symbolic lamp hangs from them. The salmon border with a succession of ivory cartouches and anthracite floral medallions is flanked by two old gold counter-borders with garlands of flowers. Two-tone serrated highlights.
