Silk GHOUM carpet (Iran), shah period, mid-20th century - Lot 57
Silk GHOUM carpet (Iran), shah period, mid-20th century
Dimensions: 203 x 138cm.
Technical characteristics: Silk velvet on silk backing.
Density of 640,000 knots per square meter.
An oblong, hexagonal ivory field, covered with plants, stylized compositions of all kinds, swastikas and naive old gold animals, supports in its center a diamond-shaped medallion with geometric "paving" and pinecone pendants. Four Moorish-inspired spandrels in old gold and ivory surround the ensemble. Two old gold counter-borders with garlands of florets flank the main one, with a succession of diamond-shaped corollas set on plant flecks. Beautiful pastel ensemble and rich graphics.
