Rare DOROCH carpet (Persia, Khorassan region), mid-19th cent - Lot 26
Rare DOROCH carpet (Persia, Khorassan region), mid-19th century, circa 1860 Dimensions : 148 x 107cm. Technical features : Wool velvet on cotton backing. An abraded cherry field supports a poly-lobed, vegetalized marine medallion with a brick rosette at its center, with a garland of small botehs framing what appears to be a phoenix. The arabesque brick border features a succession of floral compositions and multicolored botehs (symbols of genesis and fertility). External floret highlighting. Discreet Abjad script. Very poetic.
