Metz, Nancy, Chez Pierre Marchal, puis Collignon, puis Haener, 1769; in-4, XV + 2 topographical maps 658 + 25 plates, some of which folding + map of the region where the mediomatices live + 703 table of contents + 352 de preuves de l'histoire de Metz, + 368 + Une carte dépliante + 777 + 787 pp., contemporary bindings in marbled half calf, 5-ribbed spines, edges painted red, first volume's caps missing and volume 5 stapled with a waiting cover. All 5 volumes. An essential and rare work on the city of Metz printed in Nancy by Lamort and then by Haener (volume 1 gives Lamort as the printer, the next two volumes give Collignon in Metz and finally our volume 4 gives Haener in Nancy) - Complete with proof volume 5 but paperback awaiting binding and incomplete with volume 6. Volumes 5 and 6 are rare and hard to find. Our copy has the advantage of being complete with plates and the historical part, and of being in good condition and bound in period style. This Histoire de Metz was published volume after volume, starting in 1769. It is a monumental work that encountered many difficulties in its publication, the main one being financing, hence the number of different publishers. Consultant: Mr. Philippe HENRY
