ERRARD DE BAR-LE-DUC (Jean) - La géométrie et practique générale d'icelle. Troisème édition reveuë & grandement augmentée par D. H. P. E. M. Paris, Chez Michel Daniel, 1619; in-8, 352 pp, bound in contemporary full vellum, smooth spine, edges speckled. Decorated with numerous engravings in the text. Jean Errard (born around 1554 in Bar-le-Duc, died July 20, 1610 in Sedan) was a mathematician and military engineer from Lorraine, initially in the service of the ducal court of Lorraine, who converted to Protestantism and entered the service of French King Henri IV. Introducing Italian fortification to France, he was a precursor of Vauban. La fortification démontrée et réduite en art is the major work of Jean Errard de Bar-Le-Duc. It heralds the arrival of Vauban. This work is based on the fundamentals of geometry. Jean Errard translated Euclid's Elements. Consultant: Mr. Philippe HENRY
