Second French edition of Nicolas Clément's poems by Dijon-born François Guibaudet, based on the original Latin version (Reges et Austrasiae Duces), published in 1591. The interest of this work lies in its 63 engraved portraits. The portraits are no longer engraved by Pierre Woeiriot, but by Ambroise Ambroise, probably after Woeiriot. The first impressions of Épinal appeared in 1617. Ambroise Ambroise's woodcuts appear archaic compared to Woeiriot's soft carvings, and were disparaged by Beaupré, who judged them "at most worthy of appearing in the Basle almanac". But with the benefit of hindsight, and bearing in mind that we got our first impressions from Epinal, we can recognize a certain charm in this work. Consultant: Mr. Philippe HENRY
