BEXON (Abbé) - Histoire de Lorraine. Paris et Nancy, Chez Va - Lot 74

BEXON (Abbé) - Histoire de Lorraine. Paris et Nancy, Chez Valade et Thomas, 1777; in-8, 3 ppnch. + LXXXIV + 351 pp. + errata and table, bound in contemporary full blond calf, spine decorated with 5 nerves, gilt edges, red morocco title-piece, lace on the edges, cold fillet on the covers. Pages 9, 10, 11 and 12 have been moved to the beginning of the work (no doubt a binder's error) - Volume 1, the only volume published. The entire work was to have had 4 volumes; only the 1st was ever published, ending in the reign of Duke Antoine. The author's independent and liberal character led to a search for his work, which however does not indicate any particular study or research. Finial on the title and vignette at the head of the dedication by Collin, with a lovely portrait of Marie-Antoinette by Gaucher. Chartener 520, Noël, 410 - A very fine copy.
