PALISSOT DE MONTENOY (Charles) - L'homme dangereux. Amsterda - Lot 703
PALISSOT DE MONTENOY (Charles) - L'homme dangereux. Amsterdam, s.e., 1770; in-8, 201 pp. half-burgundy cloth binding, smooth spine. Charles Palissot de Montenoy, born in Nancy on January 3, 1730 and died in Paris on June 15, 1814, was a little-known French playwright, an admirer and disciple of Voltaire like Antoine de Rivarol, but often paradoxically denounced as an opponent of Enlightenment philosophy, notably for his criticism of Diderot and the Encyclopedists. He is the author of the comedy "Les Philosophes", which was a huge success and a scandal in 1760. Consultant: Mr. Philippe HENRY
