PLUTARQUE - Chero nei graecorum romanorum que illustrium vit - Lot 733
PLUTARQUE - Chero nei graecorum romanorum que illustrium vitae. Basle, Chez Michel Isingrin, 1558; in-8, 46 ppnch. + 392 pp, contemporary full calf binding with fanfare decoration bearing the arms of François II of Lorraine, spine decorated with Lorraine symbols of the crosses of Lorraine surmounted by a crown, boards sown with the same symbols, gilt edges. A good Latin edition of Plutarch. Little is known about Plutarch's life; he was born in Chaeronea near Delphi, and lived between 46 and 125. He wrote the Parallel Lives and Moralia. Very good condition, despite some restoration to the covers. This work is certainly a prize book offered to Alexis Collot with the Latin text "Alexis Colot est Nanceien de coeur, de bouche, de moeur et d'amour", noted at the end of the volume. Also with the fine printer's mark depicting a palm tree, present at the beginning and end of the volume. A very fine copy with arms. Consultant: Mr. Philippe HENRY
