CHINA, late 19th CENTURY Two fine rectangular panels in silk embroidered with polychrome threads, depicting a young woman seated on a rock, peasants and fishermen, among rocks and peonies. Dim. 51.5 x 10 cm Two strips of beige fabric, probably forming belt elements, are attached. Provenance Presumed private collection of Monsieur Auguste Gérard (1852-1922), French ambassador to China (1893-1897) and Japan (1907-1913). Then by descent to the present owner.
