Aristide COLOTTE (1885-1959). Crystal globular vase on a ped - Lot 126
Aristide COLOTTE (1885-1959). Crystal globular vase on a pedestal-shower base, decorated with geometric shapes carved on a hammer and chisel ground, signed "Colotte Nancy à l'ami Dinage" on the side. Size: 16 cm. Sale from the Michel Souillac collection, Paris April 5, 1993. Born in Baccarat in 1885, Colotte was quickly spotted for his talents as a craftsman - jeweler, engraver and sculptor - and went on to expand his Nancy workshop, hiring collaborators and working independently with Baccarat. In 1929, he exhibited two showcases at the Paris Salon, each containing six unique pieces of cut and sculpted crystal vases. In the 1930s, he mastered the difficult technique of direct chiseling on crystal blocks. His unique pieces were presented to Pope Pius XI and other celebrities of the day, and he created the crystal decor for the Lorraine Art Pavilion at the 1937 Exposition Internationale.
