BELLANGÉ Pierre-Antoine Bellangé, a furniture maker in Paris, held an eminent place among the representatives of industrial art at the beginning of the 19th century. Having successfully managed his business, the master was already a leading figure in Parisian industry under the Consulate. At the end of 1811, he became a patented manufacturer for the Garde-meuble impérial, who had already placed large orders with him for seats, beds and consoles for ministers and high-ranking civil officers. BELLANGÉ held the same position during the reign of Louis XVIII, when he furnished the Pavillon de Saint-Ouen; he was appointed by Charles X to the general management of Crown furniture, and by Louis-Philippe to the position of "King's cabinetmaker", a title he retained until his death.
His mark P. BELLANGÉ has only been found on a small number of chairs, all in mahogany, some in the Empire style. Others, originating from furniture made for the Duc de Bourbon on his return from exile, were kept in the small apartments of the Château de Chantilly. The Mobilier National owns a remarkable fauteuil-gondole, with scrolled arms, dating from the master's old age.
