Small cylinder desk in wood and speckled mahogany veneer with baguette decoration, opening with a flap and three drawers and two side pulls in the base. The interior of the upper body features a black leather-wrapped sliding shelf, three drawers and four compartments. The whole unit stands on sheathed legs. Decorated with chased and gilded bronzes: leafy handles, pull rings on macaron and pull knob. Stamped E.AVRIL. Étienne AVRIL (1748-1791). Master on November 23, 1774. JME hallmark. Paris, Louis XVI period. Dimensions : 104 x 98 x 53 cm . Restoration. Minor accidents and cracks. Étienne AVRIL's furniture, mostly in mahogany and satinwood with panels framed by baguettes, is characterized by rigorous, simple lines and large, plain surfaces typical of the Louis XVI style. The shapes are clean, light and well-proportioned, the bronzes almost absent, visible only at the lock escutcheons and sometimes in the form of fine framing baguettes that emphasize the furniture's architecture.
