Manufacture Royale d'AUBUSSON. Carton after Jacques-Nicolas JULLIARD, Scène pastorale. Tapestry woven in wool and silk. Late 18th century.
This tapestry is based on the left-hand side of a well-known piece entitled Les Pêcheurs, now in the Musée de Carpentras. It belongs to a suite woven at the Royal Aubusson Manufactory in the late 18th century from cartoons by Julliard. There are several versions of this type of tapestry, with the customer able to compose the hanging he wished by drawing models from the various cartoons available at the factory.
