Bowl decorated with "gombad" pagodas, Iran, circa 1900
Hollow bowl on a small ring foot, in siliceous ceramic with cobalt blue painted decoration on a white background under a transparent glaze of stylized pagoda landscapes on the outer wall, and a floral motif in the center of the inner wall, the lip bordered by a band and a wavy line.
H. 10.5 cm; D. 25 cm
Traces of beading, crazing, small stains
The "gombad" pagoda pattern derives from the "Willow pattern" printed on English ceramics from the late 18th century, itself inspired by motifs painted on Chinese porcelain in the late 17th and 18th centuries.
