With maps and figures. Translated from the English. The Hague, Jean Neaulme, 1743. Rare first French edition having belonged to a bishop of Liege. Manuscript ex libris on the title page. Decorated with 34 copper-engraved hors-texte plates: 9 maps (of which 8 folding), 5 plans (of which 3 folding), 19 plates of views, figures and botanicals, and one plate of music. Two volumes in-quarto full calf with arms on the 4 covers, spine with 5 nerves, author and title gilt, red edges. A good copy in spite of wear to the spines, caps and corners. More marked damage to the corner of volume 1 (Playfair, 247).
