Magnificent and important carpet KOUBA / AKSTAFA (Caucasus), - Lot 130
Magnificent and important carpet KOUBA / AKSTAFA (Caucasus), end of the 19th century
Dimensions : 421 x 186cm.
Technical characteristics : wool velvet on wool foundation.
Three magnificent multi-lobed floral medallions in brick, old gold and mauve, adorned with multicoloured geometric motifs, are laid on a marine field interspersed with long celadon green boxes with stylised vegetation. Curious "double birds" (hoopoes?) are scattered throughout the carpet. Four triangular brick spandrels with ivory scrolls frame the whole. Two internal highlights, composed of small polychrome pyramids topped by "crocheted jacks" run the length of the field. Brick border with a series of geometric multicolored starry flowers, flanked by two serrated sky counter borders. Very fresh, pictorial rarity and totally atypical decoration.
Exceptional Caucasian carpet by its size and its pattern, great collector's item. (Very good condition)
