Sale information

There are territories whose artistic history cannot be confined to one school or one era. Alsace is one of these. A cultural crossroads as much as a land of attachment, it has seen the birth of artists whose work, deeply rooted in their origins, nevertheless very soon went beyond the regional framework to engage in dialogue with the great European currents. The ALEXANDRE LANDRE STRASBOURG auction house has chosen to highlight this richness, both coherent and plural, through the creation of the Alsatica department.

Our inaugural sale on March 28, 2026 celebrates Alsatian art through 185 carefully selected lots. The sale is organized around three main themes: fine art, folk art and manuscripts. The latter are represented by 13 lots, ranging from 15th-century manuscripts to 20th-century "Alsatian" collector's books.

Alsatian objets d'art are highlighted by exceptional lots by Théodore Deck, seven in all, of which lot 17 is a true rarity: Two glazed earthenware statues, depicting a pair of figures wearing traditional garments in gleaming colors.

The bulk of the sale is made up of paintings from the 19th to 20th centuries, underlining the importance of this pivotal period for Alsatian art, which was then in full swing. Many important artists are represented here. To name but a few: Jean-Jacques Henner, Léon Hornecker, Emmanuel Benner, Louis Philippe Kamm, Léo Schnug, Frédéric Fiebig and Charles Spindler, with an exceptional gouache in lot 33.

Finally, an area dedicated to contemporary Alsatian art will be presented at the end of the sale. Here you'll find some twenty original drawings by Tomi Ungerer, as well as previously unseen works by France Sipttrot, Patrick Bailly Maître-Grand, Camille Claus, Raymond-Emile Waydelich and Christophe Meyer, among others.
