Provenance: Estate of Monsieur Louis Thirion, furniture in the mansion built in 1923 by Gibert et Ogé, which has remained in the family ever since. Paul Victor Jules Signac was a French Neo-Impressionist painter who played an important role in the development of the artistic technique known as Pointillism. He was born in Paris on November 11, 1863. Signac initially trained as an architect, but decided to pursue a painting career at the age of 18 after attending an exhibition of Claude Monet's work.Signac was a founding member of the Salon des artistes indépendants, along with Seurat, Dubois-Pillet and Redon.Signac's works are known for their luminous, intense colors, often depicting landscapes inspired by the sunlight of southern France.He is also recognized as a master of watercolor, a genre to which he devoted the last fifteen years.Paul Signac's work had a great influence on other artists, including Henri Matisse. He died on August 15, 1935.
